The October revolution happened in November of 1917, so it is often referred to as the November Revolution. Russian politics were in a state of confusion, and in deep debt, Lenin thought it was time to capitalize his party's popularity. He planned a coup that would overthrow the increasingly ineffective Provisional Government and replace them with the Bolsheviks. Lenin held a quite famous meeting on October 10th, with 12 political leaders that would persuade them that a revolution was needed, only 10 agreed so planning went ahead. October 24 was the date it was planned on, later troops loyal to the Bolsheviks took crucial positions in the city, and such as the main telephone and telegraph offices, banks, railroad stations, post offices, and major bridges. The revolution was begging.
